New buildings designed for energy performance, LEED certification

Energy Trust of Oregon works with building owners, architects and engineers to help design and construct buildings that achieve high levels of energy performance. In 2010, Energy Trust supported 277 new construction projects, and more than one in seven applied for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification. Though only accounting for 15 percent of the projects, LEED® buildings represented 30 percent of the total square footage. They also led to 43 percent of electricity savings and 55 percent of natural gas savings for Energy Trust New Buildings in 2010.

“LEED provides a complete approach to sustainable building, from energy efficiency and water conservation to indoor air quality,” said Jessica Rose, New Buildings program manager, Energy Trust. “LEED is one of many solutions that building owners can use to bring long-term energy- and cost-saving benefits to their tenants, the community and our cities.”
