Lions and tigers and energy savings, oh my!
Community Commitment-The Oregon Zoo's smart, energy-efficient design keeps animals comfortable and saves energy.
Rainwater Revisited-A 5,000-gallon Elephant Lands tank collects and filters rainwater for future zoo use.
A Natural Habitat-Passive vents let fresh air in and eliminate about 75% of Forest Hall's fan usage.
Sharing Comfort-The Oregon Zoo's geothermal loop shares energy to keep the polar bears cool and the elephants warm.
Wild for Savings-The Oregon Zoo’s energy-efficiency projects have saved:
• Over 1 million kilowatt hours
• More than 40,000 therms
That’s enough energy to power over 100 homes and heat about 80 more!
