In the Spotlight: Clackamas County

Clackamas County residents work closely with Energy Trust, Portland General Electric and NW Natural to save energy in their homes and businesses. Here are highlights of their activity with Energy Trust since 2002:

  • Energy Trust energy advisors conducted 5,000 Home Energy Reviews—helping homeowners identify energy-saving improvements
  • Residents received $15 million in cash incentives when they improved their homes with insulation, energy-efficient water heaters and other upgrades
  • More than 1,800 commercial and industrial businesses received $26 million in incentives to install energy-saving upgrades
  • Solar electric systems were installed at 413 homes and 42 businesses

The approximately $21 million saved on customers’ energy bills in 2012 are now available for other needs, creating more economic benefit for the county. Clackamas County businesses benefit, too—120 businesses in the county are Energy Trust trade ally contractors, helping their customers complete upgrades and access cash incentives.

In addition, a unique collaboration between Energy Trust and Clackamas County since 2010 has brought greater energy-saving opportunities to area homeowners and potential home buyers. Through its Energize Clackamas Program, the county leveraged Energy Trust incentives and Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant funds provided by the Department of Energy to help more than 500 moderate-income residents complete energy-efficiency home upgrades, support other residents in upgrading more than 700 homes with insulation, air sealing and duct sealing, and match Energy Trust incentives for builders constructing highly efficient homes receiving an EPSTM, Energy Trust’s energy performance score. Through this effective program, Energy Trust was able to bring year-round energy savings, improved indoor air quality and increased comfort  to residents throughout Clackamas County.
