Oregon ranks as third most energy efficient state

The annual State Energy Efficiency Scorecard report has ranked Oregon as the third most energy efficient state in 2010, behind California and Massachusetts. Oregon moved up from fourth place last year. This is the fourth scorecard issued by the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy.

Rankings are determined by a state’s policies to procure funding for efficiency, long-term energy savings targets, efforts to reduce market and regulatory barriers, mandatory building codes and standards and increased public visibility of energy efficiency as a resource.

Energy Trust of Oregon is highlighted as a main contributor to Oregon’s efforts in establishing long-term energy savings targets. “To be ranked third in this highly respected report, especially for a state of our size, is an extreme honor,” said Margie Harris, executive director, Energy Trust. “This year’s ranking verifies that Oregon is a national leader in innovation and energy-efficiency programs, while delivering real results to our communities and local businesses.”
