More energy-saving opportunities
Beyond the incentives listed above, Energy Trust offers additional incentives for a variety of equipment upgrades that help multifamily properties save energy and reduce utility costs for both residents and property owners.
Windows: Replacing old windows can reduce heat and air conditioning loss leading to considerable energy savings. Energy-efficient windows provide extra thermal insulation and reduce outside noise for a quieter and more comfortable environment. Energy Trust offers $1-1.50 per square foot for upgrades at side-by-side or plex properties and up to $12 per square foot for upgrades at stacked structures with 5 or more units.
Insulation: Insulation is an easy, cost-effective way to make your property more comfortable and keep temperatures consistent year-round. Preventing air leaks with energy-efficient insulation reduces energy use resulting in lower heating and cooling costs. Cash incentives for attic, wall and floor insulation upgrades range from $0.25 to $1.90 per installed square foot.
Custom equipment upgrades: For energy-efficient upgrades that go beyond common equipment upgrades, Energy Trust provides incentives based on how much energy your project is estimated to save. Custom equipment upgrades often pay for themselves through reduced costs in just a few years.
Benefits of energy-efficient equipment upgrades
By offering cash incentives for equipment upgrades, Energy Trust helps multifamily property owners and managers unlock the benefits of energy-efficiency improvements while minimizing out-of-pocket costs. With benefits varying by equipment type, energy-efficiency upgrades make a difference by:
- Reducing energy waste: Energy-efficient equipment is designed to optimize the use of resources like gas and electricity, helping prevent overuse and reduce waste across your property.
- Lowering utility bills: Energy-efficient upgrades reduce energy consumption, leading to lower utility bills for your residents – a benefit that adds value to their living experience and supports tenant satisfaction.
- Enhancing tenant comfort: Upgrading equipment like HVAC and insulation creates a more comfortable living environment for residents.
- Supporting state energy goals: Oregon and Washington recently passed state legislature that will require multifamily properties more than 35,000 square feet in Oregon and more than 20,000 square feet in Washington to meet specific energy use targets. Energy-efficiency improvements will help multifamily properties meet these requirements, while supporting statewide green initiatives.
